What is it?

BM-Link is a program for Mac OS X that enables your Mac to participate as a N.MUSIC and N.RADIO source in a BeoLink system. What this means is that you can control the music played in iTunes using your Beo4 from anywhere in your house.

BM-Link was released in September 2004, you can read the press release here

New Version!

Released in April 2007. Beside a number of smaller changes, the new features in BM-Link 1.5 are

  1. Control of Front Row by means of the Bang & Olufsen Beo4 remote control (requires an IR eye connected to the BeoPort box)
  2. Broadcast of N.RADIO metadata (artist name and song title) to be shown in the display of Bang & Olufsen AV products

How does it work?

BM-Link is utilizing the BeoPort hardware from Bang & Olufsen. This is a small box that you connect to your mac with two cables. A USB cable for communication and a sound cable to get the sound from the Mac.

When selecting the N.MUSIC or N.RADIO source on a B&O product commands are sent to the Mac, which in turn uses iTunes for playback, and the sound is distributed throughout your link system.

What do I need to use BM-Link

First of all you need a Macintosh running Mac OS X 10.2.2 or later. You also need the BeoPort from Bang & Olufsen. In order to use N.MUSIC or N.RADIO in your BeoLink system you also need an audio master with support for those sources.

For more information about the BeoPort, visit the BeoPort Site.

How much does it cost?

BM-Link is available for free.
